Art Historical Window Series
This painting is an art object. It is clear vinyl with a process drip painting on one side and a geometric shape painting on the other side. The quality of the surface changes depending on which side you view it from. This piece as painted keeping art history in mind and playing with the notion that Old Master paintings are considered to be windows into an illusion whereas Modern paintings particularly those influenced by Jackson Pollock make the viewer aware of the surface of the painting through his drip process. This painting makes the viewer aware of the surface but also uses the surface as a window to engage the viewer and look beyond the canvas and consider the "objectness" of the canvas forcing the viewer to interact with it on both the 3 dimensional and 2 dimensional plains.
